The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year programme taught in English, and though significantly different in curriculum and exams, the two years can be compared to the levels in the Danish 2.g and 3.g of stx. For an overall comparison between the IB programme and the Danish STX programme, have a look at this chart:
Direct admission to the 2-year IB Diploma Programme is possible if you have completed what corresponds to 11 years of school in another education system, for instance the first year of the Danish Upper Secondary School Leaving Examination (stx) or have similar international qualifications such as at least five passed ICGSE subjects with c or above. We expect the subjects Math, English and at least one science subject or Combined Science to be part of the ICGSE exam and also recommend History. Moreover, as the results from this exam are not issued until August after the beginning of term in IB1, Hasseris Gymnasium & IB World School retains the right to transfer ICGSE graduates from IB1 to PreIB if their exam results are not satisfactory.
In the admission process the school will look at each applicant individually. To enter the IB programme, you are expected to have a high proficiency in English and a solid foundation in Math, but also to posses personal qualities that demonstrate a willingness to work dedicatedly with schoolwork. To evaluate this we ask you to write a short personal statement and enclose it with the application form. In some cases admission to the IB Diploma Programme will be based on written admission tests in Math, English and general scientific method.
If the entrance requirements for the IB Diploma Programme cannot be met, you can apply to be enrolled into our PreIB course, a one-year preparatory course, also with English as the teaching language. Entrance requirements here are the Danish 9th or 10th grade leaving exams from “Folkeskolen” or equivalent international exams, and in some cases admission tests are necessary. If you have completed PreIB with satisfactory results and have demonstrated solid skills for working with you school work, you will be transferred directly to the IB Diploma Programme after the PreIB year.
For admission to both PreIB and the IB Diploma Programme, a general guideline is that only applicants between the age of 15 and 18 will be considered.
